Growth

This work is about family, the easy way that parents would monitor the growth of their children. In the words of mama, ‘It’s a string with or without small beads bound around the hands and legs. The parent easily notices growth when the string or beadwork tightens around the part that it is bound.’ (Keep in mind that these people had different beliefs about putting beads on their children)
Working on this piece was exciting because of the research involved, the questions asked, and the knowledge that lies in plain sight. This work is about a mother who is excited and happy. It depicts a mother who is grateful for the knowledge and wisdom passed on by the ancestors who came before them as she sees her children grow.
