The collapse of the traditional ways of life that portray societies with their cultures, the natural environment, and pressure that the modern life demands of us inspire Henry Kiyingi. The artist sees himself as an observer in this dynamic environment that is packed with series of events that are rapidly happening.
Kiyingi was born and raised in Uganda, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in art and industrial design at Kyambogo University. Thereafter, he worked with several studios and art spaces such as Art Bond Uganda, Hatimax Art Space, Art York Studio, and MoTIV where his art has been shown and exhibited. Kiyingi is a full-time practicing painter at Canva Creations Uganda, transforming his observations of a dynamic environment into paintings, hand-crafted in acrylic on canvas, to keep memories of events in people’s lives.
“Transformation and change are daily factors of life according to my personal experience. Moving down the road to places I was staying years ago, seeing modernization washing away old traditions, cultures, and peoples’ beliefs leave me with no option but to depict these fading memories of my past in paintings, portrayed in an expressive style.”
